Munich, Germany – November 2024 – BioID GmbH, a leader in biometric and deepfake detection technology, has been announced as the prestigious 9th Munich Digital Innovation Award winner. This year’s theme, “Reality Check AI,” highlighted groundbreaking AI applications, with BioID’s innovative deepfake detection solution as a prime example of technology combating fraud and enhancing security.
BioID’s deepfake detection technology addresses a critical cybersecurity question: “Is this photo/video material genuine?” With the rise of generative AI tools, fraudsters now have sophisticated mechanisms to impersonate identities. BioID combats these threats by using AI to detect deepfakes and enable secure digital identity verification. The real-time software analyzes facial features to distinguish authentic from manipulated content, helping protect digital identities from fraud and stop the manipulation of elections, etc.

The award, chosen by live audience voting at the event, is a testament to BioID’s impactful work in the realm of AI and biometric security. Attendees were given tokens to allocate to their preferred nominees, culminating in BioID’s selection as the winner. The trophy was presented by Mr. Kurt Kapp, Head of Economic Development and Deputy Speaker for Labor and Economy for the City of Munich, and Prof. Dr. Claudia Linnhoff-Popien, Chairwoman of the Board of Digitale Stadt München e.V. BioID CEO Ho Chang and Communication Specialist Seda Taptik accepted the award live in Munich on Nov. 21st, expressing gratitude and highlighting the importance of innovation in countering emerging threats.
“With deepfake and impersonation attacks on the rise, safeguarding digital identities is more critical than ever. This award reaffirms our commitment to pioneering solutions that detect and prevent fraud,” said Ho Chang.
The DIGICON 2024 event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and decision-makers to discuss and showcase transformative technologies. BioID’s victory underscores the importance of AI-driven solutions in addressing real-world challenges like identity fraud and disinformation.
About the 9th Munich Digital Innovation Award
The Digital World Convention, DIGICON for short, is an annual event of Digitale Stadt München e.V., held at the SWM gas meter workshop in Munich. DIGICON offers a unique setting for experts from various fields to exchange ideas on this year’s topic: “Reality Check AI – possibilities and limits in practice”. This topic discusses the many advantages that AI offers, but also the practical limits and challenges that need to be considered for companies and research.
This year, the Munich Digital Innovation Award was presented to the most innovative company with a future-orientated concept based on AI. The competition for the Munich Digital Innovation Award is aimed at all courageous and innovative companies, founding teams or individuals who want to present their future-oriented ideas and projects to a broad public.
