Face recognition

We recognize each other primarily by how our faces look.

BioID’s facial recognition works in much the same way.

At login you look into a camera, like a webcam or the camera built into your mobile phone. The authentication software then:

  1. Captures a short video
  2. Uses a simple outline of a human face to find your face
  3. Picks one image from the video stream
  4. Crops just your face to remove distractions like hair and jewelry
  5. Scales your face to a uniform size
  6. Extracts key features
  7. Compares these features to features extracted when you registered
  8. Decides if they match
