BioID joins BITKOM, Germany’s largest IT industry association
Network offers access to potential partners and policy makers
Nuremberg, Germany —May 6, 2010
BioID GmbH, a leading provider of multimodal biometric authentication for IT, web, and mobile applications, announced today that they have joined BITKOM, the German association for information technology, telecommunications and new media. Membership in BITKOM provides BioID the opportunity to network and partner with some of the best minds and top companies in the IT industry. At the same time, BioID will be able to contribute its expertise to help shape the future of IT security.
“Identity authentication is increasingly mission-critical for companies, and many see it as a driver for business growth. Biometric authentication technologies have the potential to greatly improve the reliability of user authentication while ensuring people’s privacy,” said Dr. Bernhard Rohleder, General Manager of BITKOM. “We are pleased that BioID joins our network.”
With an active membership of over 1300 companies, BITKOM is the largest German IT association and deals with national and international politics on green IT, e-government, e-health, copyright and patent law, security and privacy issues, software technologies and consumer electronics, as well as a new legal framework for telecommunications and the media. Members enjoy the opportunity to participate in numerous conferences and other events, and have access to extensive services and special purchasing conditions for their members, enabling considerable cost savings.
“As a leading provider of multimodal biometric authentication we are at the forefront of political and ethical discussions about privacy and protection of personal information. In order to increase the user experience and security in our digital world, we want to share our extensive technology and application know-how in discussions with decision makers in politics, academia and industry,” said Ho Chang, CEO of BioID GmbH. ”With BITKOM’s wide range of members representing the full spectrum of IT technology, we anticipate establishing many strong and mutually beneficial relationships.”
About BioID
BioID is a leading developer of multimodal biometric authentication solutions to protect IT and internet applications from identity theft. With the increasing use of the internet as well as mobile IT and communication services, people have a growing number of internet accounts and digital identities, which are typically protected only by a password or the combination of a token (card, key, USB stick, etc.) and a password. In contrast, BioID does not protect digital identities with insecure passwords and tokens, but rather with an indisputable link to the biometric traits of the user. Because biometric traits cannot be stolen or shared, biometric authentication is the only method known today that can verify the physical presence of a user.
BioID’s authentication software recognizes a person reliably by their face, iris and voice, and thus hinders the unauthorized use of digital identities. At the same time, BioID enjoys high user acceptance because BioID users no longer have to remember passwords. BioID’s authentication solutions have been proven through many years of use at enterprises, banks and government organizations, and can be integrated flexibly into existing IT and communication environments.
Privately held, BioID’s development facilities are located in Nuremberg, Germany. For more information, please see www.bioid.com.
