Job summary
Manages
assigned products through entire product lifecycle, including planning,
development, launch, marketing, production, enhancement, and end of life, to achieve planned revenue, profits and market share.
Essential job functions (includes but is not limited to)
Product team leadership
Assembles and leads the cross-functional product team.
Leads the product team to ensure on-time, on-budget product launch.
Leads the product team over the product‘s lifecycle to ensure the business
plan‘s goals and objectives are met or exceeded.
Ensures resolution of cross-functional problems.
Compliance/documentation
Develops, gains approval for, and updates the business plan.
Conducts periodic review of the product to ensure goals
and objectives established in the business plan are met.
Reports status, through written reports and live presentations, to senior management.
Takes action to maximize goals achievement.
Reviews long-term product requirements to ensure optimization of cash flow, upgrades, etc.
Marketing, sales and financial
Manages contracts and relationships with customers, partners, and vendors
to ensure a profitable relationship and to
rapidly resolve any problems.
Networks with key
influencers in the industry.
Provides pre-sales support on assigned products.
Product
Ensures an appropriate level of product quality.
Coordinates with marketing to ensure product is positioned correctly
in the marketplace, through marketing communication and the use
of other sales tools.
Plans migration of the product family over its lifetime to ensure integration
with new products.
Prepares and executes end-of-life plans.
Represents the company in a credible and positive manner.
Knowledge, skill and abilities required
Technical knowledge – Must be able to translate marketplace requirements
into detailed product specifications, and have successful
experience in engaging with development, business development, sales and service people.
Leadership – Demonstrated ability to build a sense of presence and
leadership within the company. Capable of developing a clear
customer-focused vision for the product line and the skill
to articulate and lead business, technical and support staff to
make that vision reality. Must be able to develop a strong
relationship with team
members at all levels; foster collaboration among team members and among
teams; lead team to accomplish goals and objectives.
Communication – Excellent verbal and written communication skills,
creating an atmosphere in which timely and high quality
information flows smoothly. Conveys
information clearly and effectively through both formal and
informal documents and presentations.
Customer interaction and active sales support.
Influencing skills – Promotes ideas and persuades others; is able to gain support and commitment from others.
Qualifications, education and experience
Bachelor‘s degree in business, marketing, or a related field with an MBA or
MS strongly preferred; or a Bachelor‘s in computer science or
engineering with an MBA. A minimum of 10 years of
progressive product management/ marketing experience with
P&L responsibility, or a combination of education and experience
that would enable performance of the full scope of the
position.
Experience with biometrics, imaging, pattern recognition, networking,
and/or database technology.
Experience with stage-gate, or similar process a strong plus.
